It’s a safe bet few among us has the skill, not to mention the car, to do 268 mph like Bugatti pilote officiel Pierre Henri Raphanel. But that’s not to say many among us haven’t tried.
Raphanel’s amazing run made the new Bugatti Veyron Super Sport the world’s fastest production car. That’s him in the photo. Anyway, it got us talking about whether we’d ever try to go 4.5 miles per minute. The consensus was, “Hell no. Are you freakin’ crazy?” Then we got talking about how fast we have gone, which led to a discussion of the wisdom of going deep into three figures on a motorcycle on an arrow-straight road in the middle of nowhere.
But we digress.
When we broached this topic with the 100,000 or so fans on Wired’s Facebook page, we were deluged with tales of wanton disregard for the speed limit. So now we’re asking you. What’s the fastest you’ve driven, what were you in (or on) and where were you when you did it? On a track, on a road, doesn’t matter to us. It’s not like we’ll call the cops. And spare us the lectures. If we want to be scolded for speeding, we’ll call mom.
Discuss…
